Movement & Motor Skills: Fine and Large
Exercising fine and large motor skills are important to children's overall development and
support cognitive processing. Our classes give students an opportunity to engage socially
while actively learning cooperation, meaningful creation (as in Handwork) and learning
coordination (as in Folk Dancing).

The Handwork program strives to place tasks before the students that encourage them to
develop basic skills for manipulating natural materials in many ways. These basic skills
include simple knots, finger knitting, ball winding, braiding, knitting, sewing, cutting,
crocheting, pattern design, machine use and many others. The skills increase in difficulty
as the students develop with the emphasis on the process of creation rather than the
product we are creating.

During the second four weeks, Ms. Donna Burgess will lead the class in Folk Dancing. The
students will experience the fun of moving to music through learning, singing and
movement games as well as simple folk dances from different cultures. These activities
cultivate the children’s capacities in many areas, including: sensory-motor learning,
musical comprehension, balance and coordination, social awareness and cooperative
learning

students will gain an understanding of the uses of electromagnetism in this
phenomenologically-based course.

Math Skills for Grades 1-4 --Sorry, this class is FULL. E-mail Sandi to be added to
the Wait List.
While some of us are mathamagians (can solve any problem so easily it seems like magic),
most of us are mathletes (we need to exercise to build our "math muscles"). In this course
we will use a variety of techniques incorporating games, movement, and practice drills to
introduce and strengthen our math skills. There will be individual as well as group
instruction to meet the specific needs of each child.
